June 2013 Newsletter

Hello,Everyone;
Today’s subject judgment is one of our most important personal characteristics. The results of our individual judgments determine much of our joy (or lack thereof). We use our judgment to choose everything from food to friends. Often, people make judgments as to whether the meditation experience is gratifying or not, depending on how “at peace” they are. Please know that your meditation is always exactly as it should be and that YOU are totally acceptable at any given moment just exactly as you are! Practicing meditation demonstrates that you are making an important step toward improving your physical, mental, and spiritual self, and that you have the courage to explore a higher level of self-knowledge and satisfaction. Working from this perspective brings with it a greater acceptance of everything and everybody around you, resulting in great peace from within, and extending into your every circumstance.

Jon Kabat Zinn,author of Wherever You Go, There You Are, tells a story about a man who came to Zinn to learn meditation for anger management. The man was at the grocery store and was standing in a long line at the checkout counter. The cashier was having a conversation with a young lady holding a baby. The anger welled up inside of him, as he assumed that the young lady must surely have no regard for the waiting line of customers. Suddenly, the young woman handed the baby to the cashier,who seemed to enjoy the baby enormously. Of course, our angry friend became even more upset. As an experiment, he chose to connect with his meditation practice, and stepped back emotionally from the situation. He took a couple of deep breaths, and, in his new moment of peace, was able to realize how beautiful the baby was. When he finally reached cashier, he commented on how precious the child was. She smiled gratefully, and explained that the baby was her grandson the offspring of her son, who had recently been killed in Afghanistan. This moment was a rare one for her the joy of holding her grandson touched her heart enormously, and the gift of new life so important, she had allowed herself the luxury of fully embracing her treasure. At that moment, our once angry friend realized how judgmental and self-absorbed he had been, and that he had been given a great opportunity one that allowed him to see a precious gift unfold and the absolute joy of watching love in its highest form.

Often, what we perceive to be as true is actually a mere thread within a far deeper, bigger and more profound tapestry.
Meditation works with you to help you see and accept things that are more relative to the big picture of life a mural not so limited as our own personal agenda. In learning acceptance, we are less likely to judge other people, as well as ourselves what WONDERFUL freedom can be ours through such an experience!!
This,I believe, is truly “the peace of God, which passes all understanding.”

Blessings to you and those you love,
Daniel

Thoughts for the Day;

“When you eventually see through the veils to how things really are, you will keep saying again and again, This is certainly not like we thought it was!” ~ Rumi

“Once in a golden hour, I cast to earth a seed, and up there grew a flower,
That others called a weed.”~Alfred Tennyson

“We judge others instantly by their clothes, their cars, their appearance, their race, their education, their social status. The list is endless. What gets me is that most people decide who another person is before they have even spoken to them. What’s even worse is that these same people decide who someone else is, and don’t even know who they are themselves.” ~Ashly Lorenzana

Lite Thoughts:

“Do not condemn the judgment of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.” ~ Dandemis
“Judgment comes from experience, and great judgment comes from bad experience.”- Robert Packwood
“There are no facts — only interpretations” ~Nietzche
